Gynecomastia surgery complications are almost unheard of. You are not going to be risking life and limb with gynecomastia surgery performed by an expert surgeon.

Hematoma is the collection of blood at the site of surgery, and may require removal if significant enough. Seroma formation is body fluid accumulation at the site of surgery that may require needle removal periodically until it stops. Infection is rare. Contour irregularities are typically minor and are not uncommon. Over removal and under removal of tissue and fat can occur, resulting in some degree of dissatisfaction. Additional procedures may be needed to improve the result (secondary surgery or revision surgery).

The best way to minimize complications is to only seek the expertise of experienced gynecomastia surgeons, avoid exercise and exertion for the first three days after surgery in particular, and to avoid heavy fluid consumption the first week after surgery. “Hard healing” refers to the development of scar tissue in the area of surgery, noticed after about six weeks. Some patients simply form more aggressive scar tissue than others because of their genetics. Time, patience and the use of massage and the roller device as well as the periodic use of steroid injection into the scar tissue all help during this healing phase. It takes up to one and a half years for the scar tissue to soften.
