Patient Details

This is a patient who had Zone 1 gynecomastia treatment two years ago. He presents with a small mass of scar tissue behind his right nipple areola complex. He is very pleased with his result but wants my opinion about his mass (in other words, he knows it’s there and wants to know what I can do about it). Interestingly, you can see that he was quite bruised on his right side after surgery and this is from blood in that area. He didn’t have a formal “hematoma” collection of blood but some diffuse blood in the area. This helps explain why he had scar tissue on that side of the hematoma and not the other as blood is an instigator of scar tissue. This is why a formal hematoma with a collection of blood behind the skin needs to be evacuated and cleaned up nicely. The patient also has to be aware that he has to work the side with the blood present even longer and harder so that scar tissue doesn’t take hold.
