Patient Details

This is yet another gynecomastia case that I call advanced. It's advanced gynecomastia because he is large in size, has poor skin elasticity due to weight changes over time and age, and he has associated sagging of his chest tissue. Making him look good in a shirt is no problem. Making him look good on the beach with his speedo will require some effort on his behalf during the recovery period and some luck as well. Expectations must be realistic and reasonable for a high satisfaction measure from the patient's perspective.

You can appreciate that he does not have perfect symmetry left to right (as he didn't before treatment). Some contour irregularities/creases/folds/asymmetries are to be reasonably expected and considered normal. Remember, his treatment does not involve skin removal with scars across his chest. We decided to take a no skin removal approach to gynecomastia treatment because we feel that normal-looking, natural imperfections are better than surgical scars on his chest.

You can see the amount of tissue removed in his case as well as the use of taping postoperatively to secure his skin where it is ideally located until it forms a new adherence to the underlying tissues that will hold it in place. As a reminder, the most important determinant of successful gynecomastia treatment at the Austin Gynecomastia Center is the quality of your skin. Those who have very elastic, thick skin make me look good and ensure high patient satisfaction. Unfortunately, with major weight loss, inherited skin elasticity issues, or advancing age, you will have some element of skin compromise that makes my job more difficult. Those patients whom I recommend skin removal treatment have major inelastic skin with sagging, stretch marks, and little inherent ability of natural skin retraction. This advanced decision by your surgeon only comes with a huge amount of experience as there is no objective method of determining the quality of your skin.
